Palmeiras beat Cali and face Boca in Libertadores women’s final

Palmeiras are in the final of the Women’s Copa Libertadores. Palestrinas beat América de Cali (COL), today (26), by 1-0, at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, in Quito, Ecuador, and will face Boca Juniors in an unprecedented continental final.

Despite dominating most of the match, Palmeiras was slow to swing the net. Flying Ary Borges scored the only goal of the match with a header in the 9th minute of the second half.

Palmeiras are in search of their first Libertadores title and are undefeated in continental competition. The São Paulo club won all three group stage ties and advanced to the round of 16 in first place in Group C.

In the quarter-finals, Palmeiras picked up a spectacular 2-1 victory over Santiago Morning, with a turning point in the last game of the game.

Now the club are preparing to face Boca Juniors – who knocked out Corinthians in the quarter-finals – this Friday (28), at 7:00 p.m. (Brasilia time). The match will take place at Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium in Quito, Ecuador.

Palmeiras collides with the defense

Seeking a place in the continental final, Palmeiras dictated the pace of the match, but ran into América de Cali’s marking. Free to create until the entrance to the area, the Palestrina struggled to cross the last scoring line. So much so that the best opportunity came from a kick from outside the box by Ary Borges, 8 minutes from the first half, defended by Nathalia Giraldo.

On the other side, América de Cali tried to exploit Palmeiras’ high line to go full speed behind the defenders, while trying to steal the ball in the attacking field. Goalkeeper Jully, however, was little sought after.

wrong and wrong

Palmeiras found spaces as the first leg developed, but racked up errors in the final ball. Creating plays both from the sides and through the middle, Alviverde took, and a lot, in the last touch, wasting good chances to come face to face with goalkeeper Giraldo.

Not like this!

Interestingly, Palmeiras’ main opportunity came from a throw to Bia Zaneratto. The ball stayed in the América de Cali defense, but Bia insisted, stole the ball, got rid of the keeper, but got tangled and couldn’t finish. She even passed it on to Duda, who didn’t take advantage of it.

ary resolution

The second half started slow and full of passing errors, until at nine minutes Ary Borges tipped the net for Palmeiras.

Byanca Brasil took it on the left and crossed for shirt 8 to head, with a fish, towards the back of the goal and put Palestrinas in front.

there and here

Palmeiras’ goal warmed the atmosphere in Quito. Up front, the São Paulo club remained in the offensive field, looking for an opportunity to build a more elastic score. América de Cali, meanwhile, decided to chase after the defeat, exchanging passes in the opposing field and looking for crosses in the box. Jully, however, was in little demand.
