Ajax needed to beat Liverpool today (26) at home to stay alive in the Champions League. The Dutch club ended up not getting there, were beaten 3-0 and said goodbye to the chances of qualifying for the knockout stage. But one player seems to have taken the need to try and help his team to another level (look below).
During the charge from a free kick, midfielder Davy Klaassen tickled defender Virgil van Dijk’s armpit. The Liverpool defender was double tagged and with both arms up.
It was then that Klaassen turned to the opposing player and performed the unexpected act. Van Dijk took the opponent’s arm away and the interaction ended there, with the game going on as normal.
The first goal of the game was scored by Salah in the 42nd minute of the first half. Darwin Núñez and Harvey Elliot, three and six minutes into the second half respectively, gave the final numbers for the match.
With the result, Ajax stagnate within three points and sit third in Group A. Napoli are the leaders, with 15, followed by the Reds, with 12, and both are confirmed in the playoffs. The key flashlight is the Rangers, zeroed so far.
The teams return to the field for the sixth and final round of the group stage next Tuesday (1). Liverpool host the Italian side in a duel that could be worth it, while the Dutch club host the Scots to secure Europa League qualification.
